Knowledge 101: Kate Sheppard

Our latest work is on Kate Sheppard - we had to research stuff about her and we had to take notes.

We also had to present our information in a certain way - I chose to do a Google Drawing and my teacher loved it.

In fact - my work was featured in another task we did relating to feedback.

Everyone got a sticky note and they wrote some feedback to my piece of work - It's even on display in my classroom!

Wānanga 101: Karakia's and Fotobabbles.

This week in Room 10 - we learn all about a Karakia in our Maori period. We also went on Fotobabble to record ourselves saying the Karakia. This is my video On Fotobabble about it.

Have you seen the latest Room 10 art style?

We used an art technique called cross-hatching to create our self portrait this year. This technique creates more of a 3d effect which is what we were wanting rather than just colouring ourselves in. Miss O'B had an A3 black and white photo of us. First we had to colour our pupil, iris and cornea with appropriate colours. We then used 'people crayons' which are made with skin tone colours. Using the two closest colours to our skin tone, we cross hatched our face starting at our forehead and moving down to our neck. The hardest part was our nose.  We then coloured our hair, completed our school uniform and blocked out the background in a vibrant pastel colour so our faces stood out. So what do you think of my self portrait?

(My self portrait. When my image was taken, I tried to look cool, of course we didn't know this was happening at all. But I think it still looks cool.

What Are Room 10's Super Powers?

This week we were challenged to think about how we could be a helpful citizen in Room 10 and what super powers we could use? If we are going to have a fantastic year, it is crucial we help each other out in times of need, when asked and by using our initiative. Here is a photo of our faces transformed into Super Hero's and a speech bubble with our thinking. On the speech bubble we have identified one super power we are already good at using and another one we want to get better at using. My super powers are:

My first superpower is the help people whenever they have a digital problem, so if a computer freezes or they just need help in some way, I can be there to help them!

My second super power is to light up minds with my knowledge! Like the first superpower, I can help people with non digital problems like helping with maths and writing. Of course, I'm still learning how to use these powers.

(Our superheros, mine is the one with the stilts, named Stilt-Guy.)
