Knowledge 101: High Jump in an article.

So people from the beginning of the high jumping days have been wondering how to perform that nice and crispy high jump. However, this article or description should help!

High jump is a sport where the athlete uses his body and 3 simple steps to jump over a bar which is situated on two poles which it’s height (bar height) is and can be adjusted.

Definition: (from dictionary.com)
High Jump - noun. A field event in which athletes, using a running start, compete in jumping for height over a crossbar supported by two upright poles.

Part one: The Approach.

The first part about your high jump will be your Approach up towards the equipment. A way to figure out where you would be running from is trying to make yourself fall. Then, stop the falling by sticking out your dominant foot. Find your starting position and be ready to run. This position is usually 10-14 steps away from the bar.

A way of running is by running in a J shape or performing an arch. This would be the same for both left and right sides of the J as if your dominant foot when you fall is the right, you are running on the right side of the bar, and the same for the left. However, your on the opposite side of the bar.

Part two: The Takeoff
So you’ve approached the poles, the bar and the mat. But you really don’t want to crash into the bar and trip and fall. So,  when your at least 3 steps away, you need to get ready to raise your dominant foot as this wont be used for a bit. meanwhile, you need to jump off your opposite foot.

If you want some extra height, thrust up your dominant leg knee, you can now bring your jumping foot up to your knee. Now it’s time to see how you land.

Part three - Flight

So you're now in the air and life feels like a breeze but if you don’t do anything, you’ll land on the bar and probably miss the mat. When your at the peak of you're jump, you need to arch your back as if it's straight, you may hit the bar and you won't be able to lift your legs.

When your butt is almost over the bar, kick up your legs so you don’t hit the bar. Lastly, tuck in your chin to make sure you don’t hurt your neck.

Conclusion:

TLDR: So in conclusion, jump with your good foot, arch your back, lift your legs and don't break your neck. Thanks for listening in.
