Fun 101: Death within a quad.

In Week 1 of Term 2, some Sheppard classes played a new game called Quad Death, the game has teams of 4 battling it out to get all the balls into one quad. We all each had a document to write our what we think the rules are, and to also write some game adaptions, this is what I wrote about the game!

Quad Death
Writing Purpose: To inform other HNI students the rules of the game and to develop our creative thinking ability.
Audience: Miss O’B, Mr Harman and HNI students

Use your creativity to come up with 3 alternative names for this very exciting game!
Get It In and out!
4 Loud Balls.
Flying in, and out.

Imagine another class here at HNI has not played this game before. Complete the rules below to clearly describe the aim of the game and exactly what the rules are.

Aim of the game: To get 3-4 balls into a team's section. If this happens, they get a point. The team with the least points wins.
Rules:
1. The teams must be balanced. The recommended game size is 2-4 classrooms. Separate into four teams which will go into each section.
2. At the start of a round, each team must have at least one ball to start with. They cannot start throwing until the whistle is blown.
3. Adults must be at every boundary to collect balls if players cannot reach to the balls.
4. No player within the quads can stand up on their feet. They can be on their knees to throw but standing up will cause them to sit out for 10 seconds.
5. If at least 4 balls are in one quad at a time, they get a point towards their team. Once this happens, the game must stop and every team must receive at least 1 ball to start the game over.
6. If playing in an environment with expensive items, eg stage lights, electronics and projectors, any balls thrown from a sector that come close to hitting one expensive object will have a point given to that sector.
7. The team with the least points wins the game.
8. The ref always has the final say, no matter what.
9. 4 Balls must be in a sector for at least 1.5 seconds for the point to count. The point doesn't count if 1 ball goes out before then.

Game Adaptations
Use your creative thinking to explore possible adaptations to this game to enhance both the fun factor and the ability to win the game. I have given you one example for each category but challenge yourself with other ideas and thinking.

Attack
Defence
Game Plan/Strategy
  • Use balls other than netballs that aren’t as heavy so the speed of the travelling ball also speeds up the game.

  • Coordinate with other teams to target one opponent that has less points than the team you're collaborating with.

  • Hold onto all your balls (eg - 2 at a time) and throw them all at once at a target with has at least one ball with them.
  • 4 players from each quad are allowed to sit on the bleaches to stretch with their arms and intercept flying balls.

  • Use noodles as arms to also stop balls as they fly in.

  • Nominate somebody to be a team leader and have them give commands to you like to aim to one place or pass it to a different person.

  • Have people on the outsides collect balls that go out and pass them into the team.
  • People on the perimeter of the quad pass the ball to someone closer to the bleaches to allow them to throw it further into the opponent's area.

  • Have many more balls flying around the place which can make the game difficulty go up and make the game more chaotic.

  • Have people on the outsides collect balls that go out and pass them into the team.

  • Nominate somebody to be a team leader and have them give commands to you like to aim to one place or pass it to a different person.
